Digital River Takes E-Commerce to School

Digital River, an e-commerce ASP, today announced that is expanding its e-commerce products and services into the business-to-education market.

The expansion is designed to allow Digital River’s clients to sell products to educational institutions via the Internet. The business-to-education offering complements the Minneapolis-based company’s existing multi-channel e-commerce system that includes business-to-consumer, business-to business and business-to-government models.

LapLink, a Bothell, Wash.-based software developer that specializes in file transfer, synchronization and remote control products, recently added a business-to-education component to its corporate e-commerce operation. LapLink’s new educational store and its corporate e-commerce site is built as well as hosted and managed by Digital River.

“Digital River continues to introduce us to new sales channels and increased revenue opportunities,” “Because we have outsourced our e-commerce operations to Digital River for a few years, we have developed a true partnership and increased the scope of our e-commerce operation without adding substantial in-house expenses,” said Todd Rupley, LapLink’s senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. “We exploit every sales channel Digital River offers.”

To support it business-to-education initiative, Digital River said it plans to leverage the scalability, features and functionality of its existing e-commerce system, which included online purchase orders, electronic license management and volume licensing.

Digital River was named a Top 20 ASP by ASPnews in September.
