Vignette Corp. , the Austin, Texas-based content management system provider, yesterday announced that it will deliver portlets, (portal building blocks), to integrate Vignette V6 MultiSite Content Manager (VMCM), its recently launched software product, with Sun Microsystems’
iPlanet Portal Server.
The integration will provide joint Vignette and Sun customers with access to Vignette-managed content within the Sun portal framework.
Vignette says the VCVM application allows organizations to manage content on multiple sites and portals via a single application, and the development of portlets for the iPlanet Portal Server extends the existing alliance between both Sun and Vignette.
“Vignette V6 MultiSite Content Manager, in combination with the iPlanet Portal Server, will help enterprises effectively manage multiple sites while providing a personalized experience for each user,” said Wes Wasson, vice president of product marketing for iPlanet.
“The integration of Vignette’s content management solution with the iPlanet infrastructure is further testament to the strength of our alliance and an important step in enabling our joint customers to develop portal applications that offer targeted, personalized content,” he added.
Both firms argue that in combining the standards-based VMCM application with Sun infrastructure, organizations can launch new portals more rapidly, leveraging their existing investment in iPlanet’s portal server.

By deploying VMCM within a Sun environment, customers now can tightly integrate Vignette’s content management functionality within Sun’s industry-standard portal infrastructure,” said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of products at Vignette.
