American Express today announced the launch of AmExMail, the company’s new free e-mail service.
American Express said it is launching the service in response to positive customer feedback received during a pilot phase which has been running since November of last year.
Conducted by American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc., the AmExMail pilot far exceeded expectations, the company said.
While American Express cardholders receive exclusive offers associated with the new service, AmExMail is also available to non-cardholders.
Features include a permanent e-mail address that can be accessed in three ways: through the AmExMail site; through an existing e-mail service via AmExMail’s message forwarding feature; and off-line through other e-mail software including Netscape Mail, Qualcomm’s Eudora, and Microsoft Outlook.
AmExMail’s standard e-mail capabilities include filtering, blocking, and
folder storage on the Web. Personalization features also allow users to receive stock quotes, sports scores, news, and event reminders via e-mail.
AMEX cardholders exclusively receive 10MB of e-mail storage space versus 5MB for non-cardholders, as well as access to special customer support service.
AmExMail was developed in conjunction with Colorado Springs, CO-based USA.NET Inc., which provides and administers the service with its mail engine architecture.
“More and more, our Cardmembers rely on e-mail in their day-to-day
personal and business activities,” said Larry Kutscher, vice president of Interactive Enterprise Development at American Express. “AmExMail allows us to provide customers with an easy and reliable way to manage all of their communications whether they are at home, in the office, or on the road. And with AmExMail, customers can count on the traditional American Express level of integrity, security and privacy.”
