[SYDNEY, Australia] Consulting firm Ernst & Young has launched an online security venture which aims to provide businesses with security content and services to proactively manage IT infrastructure.
eSecurityonline.com is an existing U.S. subsidiary which launched its services locally to Australian clients yesterday.
Services accessible via the portal include over 1000 security related resources, online services such as the management of viruses, vulnerabilities and configurations, and managed services like network scanning, intrusion detection and virus alert notification.
eSecurityonline’s global chief executive officer Jon Darbyshire said the portal would proactively assist companies in avoiding risks and enabling secure e-business transactions.
“eSecurityonline.com allows companies to stay one step ahead of cyber criminals by proactively uncovering new threats and offering solutions before those threats become a problem,” said Darbyshire.
In addition to service provision, the portal also provides filtered content relating to security news, tools, events, products and other resources and draws on further information from alliances with training, research and employment sites.
However, the portals premier offering, according to Ernst & Young, is its Online Vulnerability Service (OVS), an assessment service allowing IT managers to maintain asset profiles, track the status of specific security fixes, and receive reports via e-mail.
Within the portal, clients can create custom asset profiles, queries and reports covering more than 2,200 vulnerabilities, 50 operating systems and common applications, devices and databases. At the service provision end, the portal monitors hundreds of sources daily to alert customers to new vulnerabilities and suggested solutions.
As part of the overall service, subscribers will also receive management reporting capabilities and a strategy for prioritizing security and IT tasks, allowing them to budget time effectively.
According to Ernst & Young, the portal was developed in an effort to combat the growing number of online security breaches. “Ernst & Young recognized a need within the industry for a service that could provide trusted, fast and specifically targeted security and vulnerability information to corporations online,” said the national director, Bruce Young.
