Internet World Asia, owned by Penton Media, is bringing its successful Internet device fashion display to its Hong Kong show.
The fashion exhibit, a big hit at the Internet World Fall show in New York City, will be held at 1999’s Internet World Asia at Hong Kong, hosted in the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre from 3 to 5 November.
The “Brave New Unwired World” fashion show is the brainchild of InfoCharms Inc., a new technology start-up and a spin-off of the MIT Media Lab, and features the latest prototypes and products in “wearable computing”.
“The future is already here,” said Alex Lightman, co-founder, President and Chairman of InfoCharms and a producer of the show. “Internet-enabling wearables are the first new technology of the 21st century and this will fast become an integral part of the social scene, globally.”
MIT graduate Lightman is one of Chief Executive magazine’s top 10 “CEOs of the Future” (August’97) and was chosen as an “Up and Comer” by Forbes magazine (January’99).
The sponsor of the fashion show is Motorola Semiconductors, which hopes to promote its DigitalDNA as being a major propellant of minute computing into the realm of fashion.
“This is a real coup for Hong Kong that InfoCharms decided to have the international premier of the show at Internet World”, said conference organizer Michael Westcott, Asia Pacific Managing Director of Penton Media.
Internet World Asia will also be holding a conference which features keynote speeched from international Net luminaries including, Alan Meckler, Founder/Chairman, internet.com; JoAnn Patrick-Ezzell, Chairman & CEO, AUNET; GM O’Connell, Founder/Chairman, Modem Media.Poppe Tyson; Paul Otellini, Executive Vice President, Intel Architecture Business Group, Intel; Peter Hamilton, COO, China.com Corp.; and Yat Siu, Founder, Outblaze, along with more than 60 other industry speakers.
