Avaya Supports Shortest Path Bridging Standard

In a bid to help customers speed the delivery of networking applications, Avaya has begun to implement the IEEE’s 802.1aq Shortest Path Bridging standard.

The standard, just as it sounds, helps networks take the most direct route, and the Avaya implementation extends the firm’s rollout of its Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture

“We’re giving our customers the ability to flatten networking, with less complex routing trees, and now specifically we’re using Shortest Path Bridging,” said Steve Bandrowczak, vice president and general manager of Avaya Data Solutions. “More importantly this sets up an architecture that allows our customers to turn on services and applications in hours, instead of weeks or months.”

Datamation has the details on Avaya’s new implementation of the standard, and offers a peek into the firm’s ongoing virtualization strategy.
